Reflection:
I chose to go on this trip because I heard that there would be a school visiting programme and I hoped that I could make more international friends, have more interactions with them, tell them stories of our life in Singapore because I know that students in China are always excited when foreign students visit their schools and they love to hear how is our school life in Singapore. I know it as I studied in China for a few years before and that was the reaction I remember my classmates had when we had students visiting from Australia.
Decisions I made were either to leave my family members for the one week trip or not. I was worried if I would get homesick because during my camp in primary four, I had a serious case of homesick and I wanted to return back home so badly. Especially at night when we were asked to sleep, I would get a really sick feeling in my stomach as I think of my comfy bed and stuffed toys at home. I remember during that camp, I cried quite a lot at night but thankfully I have friends by my side to comfort me. Due to this experience, I hesitated a bit at the decision to leave or not to leave and in the end I chose to leave because I remembered how my mum always taught me to be independent so that I can go out and explore the world one day by myself.
There was a situation when Mr Chua encouraged everyone of us to sing on the bus. One by one, our classmates went up to sing, even shy ones like Ezara. That was when I realised that actually lots of our classmates can sing well. I knew only by then because I have never bothered to find out more about them and I was feeling very guilty about that. From that moment, I made up my mind that I will definitely try to interact more with other classmates and not just stay in my own clique. After each person who sang, we would clap and cheer for them, giving each other high fives or grin at each other, this singing activity definitely brought our class closer.
The person who taught us more than what can be achieved in class is our guide Mr Wang. He knows almost everything in Nanjing, be it the history or the way around the city. It's almost like he knows every street in Nanjing, he could always tell where we were without looking at a map, he was definitely a professional guide to respect. He also taught us history of Nanjing which I don't think any teachers in school can teach as clear and informative as him. He also showed great patience while dealing with our class. This is a value which we should all learn from him.
One fact I have learnt from the trip is that I have always thought that our class was not very bonded. However during the trip, I could see that we all cared for one another. For example, when one of our classmates need the toilet so badly, others would automatically give him/her the priority. Another example was that when it was raining, our classmates would share their umbrellas with those who did not bring without being asked to. This has impacted me as I can see the care all of us have to each other and this unites our class, bringing out the class spirit.
This trip have made me wanting to know more about each and everyone of my classmates because with all the days we've been through, I felt more bonded with the class and I would really love to find out more about the class.
The long term changes I hope for is that our class can stay bonded like this. Giving each other helping hands when one is in trouble. Sharing stories with each other. Caring for each other's needs.
What I learnt form the trip is that if we want to bond our class more, we can't just hope for it, everyone has to take a step forward, say something or do something, together we can make a difference and achieve our goal.
National library📖
Should be kept. To preserve national heritage. It is a place where memories of the previous generations are kept. The National Library traces its history back to the establishment of the first public library as a result of suggestions by Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of modern Singapore. It should be kept to let the future generations understand and see the history of it by themselves instead of photographs. In addition, once it is removed, it can never be replaced.
3,2,1 reflection
3 things I learnt from the lesson:
I learnt about the rising population in China.
I learnt about China's one child policy implementation.
I learnt about the cause of China's rising population.
2 perceptions I have:
I find the one child policy unfair to the people, the cause of rising population is because of government's lack of management.
I used to think rising of population is not a big problem for the country but now I realised how many impacts it can cause to both the life of people and the society.
1 question I have:
Why China did not do anything about the rising population before implementing the one child policy?
Reflection of chingay parade
When we reached the destination, Marina Bay, I can sense everyone's enthusiasm and excitement. The whole place was filled with student not only from our school, but other schools as well. Everyone was seated down, chatting happily with friends and looking forward for the show to start.
I really love the little light bulb they provided for us, which was put into the goodie bag. When the night started to fall, we were asked to switch on the light bulbs. It was a beautiful scene. The light was shining from everyone of us, bright and colourful. It really matched with this year's theme, "Lights of legacy, brighter Singapore", it also made me realise how united we are.
The goodie bags they prepared was really thoughtful because none of us had eaten dinner and we were all starving. So I was absolutely delighted when I saw small packets of snacks were provided in the bag. We could actually eat, chat and laugh with our friends while enjoying the splendid performance.
The part I like the most is the showcase of all the different floats. I would like to use one word to describe the showcase of floats, multiracial. I saw Indian, Malays, Japanese and Chinese dance as well as each of the different culture. Every float that passed us was of a different theme such as Monkey King or Indian culture. There was many interesting performances such as acrobatics and taekwando too. This shows the diverse of races in Singapore! The volunteers in the dancing are all come from different country such as China and Japan. There were ballet dancers as well, which were all 'floating' in the air dancing like angels. They use their legs to hold themselves to the hula hoop and dance.
In the end of the performance, the last float is the main theme of this year's Chingay performance' Lights of legacy, brighter Singapore'. The beautiful and colorful confetti flew in the air, I saw people singing and dancing together, this touched me as I can feel that the Singaporean are united as one. Just as I said, the performance is multiracial, we can see many different racial in Singapore and thus I believe the audience included many people of different racial. I think that this Chingay performance is to allow the citizens in Singapore to know more about the cultures of different races and thus make the citizens from other country that live in Singapore to feel a sense of belonging no matter where do they come from.
I think poverty and happiness, they are two completely different. It does not mean that when a person is poor, he is unhappy. Survey shows that Singapore has done much better in economics than Indonesia but studies have shown that Indonesians are much happier than Singaporeans. Poverty does not kill happiness. As long as you keep a positive mindset, no better how poor you are, be satisfied with what you have, happiness will be granted to you.
I have also reflected on myself and I discovered that I really do not mind how rich or poor my family is, as long as my parents, relatives are with me, there is really nothing for me to worry or to be unhappy about. So what if we are poor? We can solve the problem as a family. To me,being together with my family makes me happy, because that is the warmest and safest place in the world.
My experience for RV60 was wonderful. I like the fact that everyone worked together to make the performance a success. I felt really proud to be a Rvian after the performance. I find every performer is actually trying their best to make it a night to remember, it is very touching to see that.
I was part of the mass display,I'm from CO. I remember at the start of all the rehearsals, which was around last year's October, I was complaining a lot about school making us practice so hard and making us to stay back after a long tiring school day. After a few weeks of practices, our teacher in charge had a talk with us. She said a lot and I forgot a lot about them, but I do remember the most important sentence of her talk. She said "Once we stepped into RV, we are part of RV and we go through whatever RV would be going through together."
This talk was effective, I had never complained again throughout all the rehearsals, so did my CCA mates. After the actual performance, I was amazed to see how we Rvians can put up such a splendid performance especially when some of us were not even professionals. We stood proudly on the stage as the audience applauded, all the hard work was definitely worth it. 加油立化!🙆🏻🙆🏻
When someone first look at this picture, he would think that this is just an ordinary class photo. However, to me, this is not just an ordinary photo.
Whenever I look at this photo, it reminds me of how everyone was like when we first stepped into RVHS, into this class. Perhaps, we were frightened, insecure, because we almost do not recognise anyone. We also do not get what is the meaning of working as a class. Everyone was just minding their own business.
After about one year, we have grown more mature. We understand that we are a class, we understand what is teamwork. Thus, in this photo, everyone is laughing together, standing near to one another. This is indeed an extraordinary photo.
